The world's biggest bookshop, Amazon, has added a fashion retailer to its growing armoury.

The acquisition of Shopbop.com, a retailer of women's clothes from many leading designers such as Juicy Couture and Marc Jacobs, will allow Amazon to continue towards domination of the virtual high street.

Although the fashion company will continue to operate as an independent site, that won't stop Amazon from reaping the rewards of its heightened status now it is an Amazon brand.

"All of us at Shopbop.com have worked hard to make our company a leading destination for fashion consumers," said Bob Lamey, the company's chief executive.

"We're very happy to have the support, experience and resources of Amazon to take the Shopbop brand and business to new levels," he went on.

Amazon began ten years ago and now sells anything from bird cages to pogo sticks, of which it has currently over ten different makes.
